PRINT MEDIA CHECKLIST

The purpose of this PRINT checklist is to better get an idea of what you would like, want and need.

This checklist allows you to get an idea of what is required to start this a print media project and what it takes to complete it. It also helps to design according to what is appropriate to your company.

Choose your print media type:
• Business Cards
• Stationary
• Brochures & Catalogs
• Corporate ID Packages
• Press Kits
• Package Design
• Book, Video & CD Covers
• Magazine Design
• Exhibit Display Design
• Digital & Commercial Printing
• Direct Mail Design
• Posters & Postcards
• Newspaper or Magazine Ads
• Flyers

The Project
1. What is the purpose of the project? (Direct sales, marketing, informational, etc.)
2. What do you want the reader to think and feel when they see your product?
3. Is this image consistent with your company's current image?
4. Content. Do you need someone to copywrite the text or will it be done in house?
5. How do you plan to recover the costs of the project?

Your Target Market (audience)
1. What kind of clients do you want to attract? (age group, lifestyle, attitudes, etc.)
2. Why do you want loyal clients of your competitor to become your loyal client?
3. What do you think you need to make them loyal?
4. What do you want to accomplish with this project?

Your Budget and Schedule

1. What is your budget for this project?
2. What is the price you want to pay for this project?
3. What is the desired launch date?
4. Where does this date derive from?

The Process
1. Define your goals, objectives and strategy.
2. Determine the cost of design and the price of printing.
3. From the requirements of # 1 and # 2, define the look and colours.
4. Create the the content.
5. Merge the content and the "look".
6. Proof the document.
7. Proof the document AGAIN.
8. Manufacture films required for printing.
9. Proof the films.
10. Send to printer
11. Delivery

Keep in mind the following when working on a print media project:

• Once you sign the negatives, there's no turning back. The project will go to the printers and you will be responsible for the final project. So, always double check the negatives before you go to the printers. Otherwise, you will have to pay again for the films and print.
• The project takes times to create, to print and to deliver. Expect anywhere from a week to months from the start of the project to final delivery, depending on the size of the project.
• The number of colours and the kind of paper you choose affect the the final cost.

NEVER FORGET TO:
• Check for spelling and grammar mistakes.
• Check that your address, web site address, email, phone numbers and
   fax numbers are correct.
